The dialog for editing values of program parameters

To edit values of parameters select the menu item "Tools/Options...".

The section "Creating/Comparison"

The parameter "Maximal level of difference", at which images are still considered as identical ones, specifies the basic criterion of comparison (in percentage; 0% means very similar images from the point of view of the program). The recommended limit of values is [0-15]%. It is established by practice, that the optimal value is 11% (the default value). I do not recommend to depart too far from it. The program can consider all the gallery images as similar ones as a result of setting too large values (more than 20%). The value of the given parameter can also be changed via the comparison dialog.

The parameter "Show images during search and comparison" specifies, whether the images should be displayed in the appropriate dialogs (it can be set also directly in them) at reading and comparing images. The parameter "good image quality" controls quality of displaying these small images. These options improve interactivity, but slow down substantial work, this slowing-down will be significant when thumbnails are not stored in the gallery (see the parameter "Store thumbnails in gallery files"). Don't turn them on if your computer is weak. By default the parameter "Show images" is turned on, the parameter "good image quality" is turned off.

The parameter "Read GIF files" specifies, whether GIF images should be read out and included into the gallery. It is turned on by default. It is recommended to turn off it only when the program crashes at reading GIF (it is possible as a result bugs in used free libraries for reading images).

The parameter "Read ICO files" specifies, whether ICO images should be read out and included into the gallery. It is turned on by default. If the icon is multiframe the frame with the maximal size is choosen.

The parameter "Try to accelerate and read BAD files" specifies, whether defective images should be read out and included into the gallery. Besides, the option turns on new rapid reading algorithm. The additional parameter "Fast reading of the large JPEG files" accelerates reading of large JPEG images during working with the gallery. They are turned on by default. It is recommended to turn off these options if only you have troubles during creation of the gallery. If the parameter "detailed log file" is turned on the decoding errors are additionally written in the log file, besides, if the program crashes during image file reading, the name of the last readout file will be shown at the following loading of the application.

Options1

The section "Viewing"

The group of parameters "Use for image viewing" specifies, what viewer should be started at double click on a thumbnail. It is possible to assign a concrete viewer, to establish starting the program registered in the system for the given file type (turned on by default), or to set the internal viewer (the latter displays thumbnails only).

The parameter "do not consider the case of names in the gallery" turns off case sensitive sorting the names of files in the right pane of the main window. It is turned on by default.

The group of parameters "Parameters to show the images in the groups of duplicates" allows to restrict "noise" effect when working with the large groups of duplicates. In such groups some pairs of images may have the difference level essentially more than that of set for search. To avoid showing these groups (for example, in the dialog for series merging) you should turn on the option "Avoid to show the pairs with difference level more than the given value (%)" and set the required difference level by means of the slider. When the oprion "is equal to the current value for search of the duplicates" is turned on the difference level is always equal to the current value of the appropriate parameter set for search of duplicates. By default the first option is turned on, the second one is turned off.

Options2

The section "Viewing:Main window"

The parameter "Icon size" allows to set size of thumbnails displayed in the left pane of the main window.

The group of parameters "Show in the thumbnail window:" controls what particular information will be displayed on thumbnails in the left pane of the main window. All of them are turned on by default, except for displaying full file paths.

Options3

The section "Working"

The parameter "Ignore the READ-ONLY attribute" specifies, whether the image files marked as read-only should be deleted straight away or after the appropriate approval. It is turned off by default (in order to prevent casual removal).

The parameter "Put deleted files in Recycle Bin" specifies, whether the image files should be deleted irretrievably or moved into Windows Recycle Bin. It is turned on by default.

The parameter "Work with descript.ion" specifies, whether the description files "descript.ion" should be processed (when they are present in the directories with the images). It is turned on by default.

The parameter "Check accessibility of images during gallery loading or refreshing" specifies, whether availability of images on the data medium should be checked during gallery loading or refreshing. It is turned off by default, which allows to speed up processes of opening and refreshing large on-line galleries stored on HD. If you prefer to store your image collections on CDs, we would recommend to turn on this option.

Options4

The section "Messages"

The group of parameters "Log file" controls maintenance of the log file of the program. Logging is turned off by default. At detection of a bug in ImageDupeless it is recommended to turn on maintenance of the detailed log file and to send it together with the bug description to the author.

The parameter "Require approval at removal of a file" specifies, whether a warning should be displayed at removal of images from the gallery. It is turned on by default (in order to prevent casual removal).

The parameter "Show tips of the day" specifies, whether tips of the day should be displayed at start of the program. It is turned on by default. The tips could be helpful for novice users familiarizing with the program.

The parameter "Display statistics at the end of the session" specifies, whether statistics should be displayed at the end of the session: working time, the number of images (read, processed, found duplicates, marked as unlike, deleted, moved, replaced, marked automatically by the program). The statistics is displayed on the screen and printed into the log file if the logging option is turned on. The parameter is turned off by default.

The parameter "Generate the list of problematic images" specifies, whether the list of images for that disturbances in structure of their files were detected during their reading should be displayed. The problematic images can be kept in the gallery, can be excluded from it or can be moved into an individual directory. The program can work with such images, but to raise stability it is recommended to move them into an individual directory outside of the gallery and to resave them by means of any graphic editor. The parameter is turned on by default.

Options5

The section "Storing"

The parameters "Store list of duplicates in gallery files" and "Store user list of unlike images in gallery files" specify, whether result of the last search of duplicates and the user-defined list of unlike images correspondingly should be stored in gallery files. This is possible only in the registered version of the program. They are turned on by default.
WARNING: the lists of duplicates and unlike images will not be stored if you select comparison with new images or with another gallery.

The parameter "Store thumbnails in gallery files" specifies, whether thumbnails for images should be stored in gallery files. It is turned on by default. If you wish to use a gallery in off-line mode, you must turn on this parameter before creation of the gallery, which allows to look through the galleries even if the source image files are absent on a disk. However when this parameter is turned off process of gallery creation is performed 2-2.5 times faster, and size of the gallery file and expences of RAM in process of its creation (before first saving) are reduced as much as 3 times (approximately 7Kb per image when thumbnails are stored in the gallery file and 2.5Kb per image otherwise), but you will pay for this by absence of thumbnails in the left pane at inaccessibility of image files or by low speed of displaying thumbnails of the duplicates or the images of the gallery at their presence. This option has no influence on quality of search of duplicates. If you prefer to store your image collections on compact discs, you should turn on this parameter. If you prefer to put the images on a hard disk, and the number of images is greater than 40000, we would recommend to turn off the given parameter at work.

Options5

The section "Series of images"

The parameter "show series indicator in comparison dialog" specifies, whether search of the image series should be accomplished and the icon "series indicator" should be displayed under the images in the comparison dialog when the image series corresponding to them are found. It is turned off by default. This parameter duplicates the option of the same name in the dialog for comparison of two images.

The parameter "generate the list of files according to the current state of the directory" specifies, how the list of files for procedure of finding the image series should be generated. When the option is turned on the source list of files for finding the series is generated according to the current state of the directory with the images, otherwise the list is generated according to the current state of the gallery file. In the latter case generation of the list is accomplished faster, but may lead to non-adequate results if the gallery has not been refreshed for a long time (new images may be appear, a part of images may be removed). The parameter is turned off by default.
